Women are 40% higher. Menstrual pain will decrease with age. The survey also pointed out that the menstrual cramps of women aged 55 to 60 are as low as 1.5%. Menstrual pain can be divided into “primary menstrual pain" and “secondary menstrual pain".

Primary menstrual pain

Primary menstrual pain is common in women between 15 and 24 years old, especially in unmarried and unborn children. The main symptom is lower abdomen pain, which can also be reflected to the lower back and the inner groin. It usually occurs a few hours before the onset of menstruation or a few days after the onset of menstruation, and it usually lasts for 2 to 3 days. The pain is in the nature of pain and cramps. It is believed that primary menstrual pain is related to the secretion of “prostaglandins". Prostaglandin can increase the frequency range of uterine muscle contraction, causing uterine contraction to be too strong, of blood contracting vessels, uterine ischemia and hypoxia, causing back pain and low back pain.

Secondary menstrual pain

Secondary menstrual pain refers to women’s menstrual pain caused by diseases or abnormalities of the reproductive system, such as: ovarian cysts, endometriosis, fibroids, uterine displacement, and reproductive organ infections. ultrasound can help diagnose uterine problems.

Low back pain caused by menstruation can be relieved by appropriate treatment. Women can use hot compresses on the abdomen and back for 10 to 15 minutes every night 2 to 4 days before menstruation. This can stimulate blood circulation and relaxation of the back’s tight muscles. If a woman is suffering from low back pain, menstrual cramps will aggravate the back pain. Because the muscles of the lower back are tightened, the reflex pain caused by uterine contraction increases the original lower back pain several times. Generally, women suffering from low back pain can alleviate low back pain caused by menstrual cramps.

In the treatment, manual therapy are used to relax muscles and increase blood circulation in the lower back. The chiropractor will also instruct the patient to do some simple exercises to relieve menstrual pain.

Author

Dr. Matty F.Y.
